Rules of conduct
A couple of rules to that are nice to know:
- Safety is paramount, do not take any unnecessary risks.
- Always stay along the starboard waterside (keep right).
- Keep the bow of the sloop towards waves to avoid excessive rocking motion.
- The maximum allowed speed on the Vecht, inside and just outside the harbor, and on the Kalverstraat is 6 kilometers per hour. On the Loosdrechtse Plassen a speed of 12 kilometers per hour is permitted.
- Commercial boats always go first (this includes tour boats).
- Approach bridges so you are visible to oncoming traffic.
- It is forbidden to drive a vehicle when you are under the influence of drugs or alcohol.
- You may not moor on trees, traffic signs, under or on bridges, or in other places where it’s prohibition is stated with signs.
- People live on and around the water. Please respect their privacy.
- Do not be a nuisance to others and do not create excessive noise.
Locks
The information regarding the operational hours of the locks are a guideline. For the most current information go to the website of Recreatie Midden Nederland.
The Weersluis (self-service) lies between the Vecht and the Weersloot, north of the Proosdijweg in Breukelen.This lock is often used to get to, and back from, the Vecht from Korvet Boat Rental. Beware, when the water levels are low the rudder heel can hit the threshold of the lock. Enter and exit the lock very slowly!

The Mijndense Sluis (paid/cash!) lies between the Westelijke Drecht and the Vecht, south of the town Loenen aan de Vecht. This is the most important entry point to the Loosdrechtse Plassen.

The Raaisluis (self-service) lies between the ‘s-Gravelandsevaart and the Hilversums Canal south of the provincial road N201.

‘t Hemeltje (operated/free) is the lock that connects the Vecht with the Hilversums Canal. Beware, it is necessary to be present at least 30 minutes before the lock closes.

The Kraaienestersluis lies between the Vecht and the Tienhovens Canal, between the towns Maarssen and Breukelen. Because of the shallowness it is prohibited to enter this area with a sloop.
